DIY Halloween Costumes

Lifestyle Fashion

Buying children’s costumes for Halloween has become quite an expensive undertaking. It’s easy to spend more than $ 30 on each kid, and even that’s probably a conservative number when you consider props, accessories, and makeup.

When I was a kid, when there were no cell phones, there was no internet, and most of the costumes you could buy included a flimsy plastic mask with string and some kind of plastic poncho with a printed design. If you wanted something cool and unique, you had to do it.

Well, making costumes for yourself and your kids can not only save you money, it can also be a fun and educational project for you and your kids. The internet has a number of incredible resources to help, with step-by-step instructions available for just about any type of makeup or costume design you may be looking for.

Some great resources we’ve found for DIY costumes include:

1. Instructables – Each year, the DIY project website Instructables.com features a wide range of costume instructions, makeup, accessories, decorations, and even food recipes; all for getting into the Halloween spirit and for the DIY.

2. PinterestPinterest.com has become another amazing resource for costume ideas and instructions, as well as any other Halloween projects you’re looking to tackle.

3. Youtube – A quick search on Youtube.com for “Halloween Makeup Tutorial” will present a wealth of first person instructions on how to create and apply makeup to create almost any look you are looking for. Almost any other search, such as “Halloween Accessories” or “Halloween Costume,” will return similar results and a host of video tutorials on how to make your own Halloween items.

Four. Search engines – A good place to start with any DIY costume project is a search engine. No matter what your preferred search engine is, general or specific searches will return any number of projects available on websites around the world.

You may find that creating and working on a Halloween costume or project will not only be fun, but it will be a lasting learning experience for you and your children. Working with tools, crafts, and fabrics will instill a new appreciation and pride in children, while also allowing them to hold their heads high when they do tricks or treats.

The bonding opportunity and “do it yourself” experience will create a memory that will last a lifetime. Get to work!
