Industrial Interiors

Home Kitchen

Elegant, modern and minimalist. While the industrial look is best suited to converted industrial buildings such as warehouses and loft apartments, this look can be adapted to other interiors.

The key colors are black, gray and white and could be used to upholster fabrics on sofas and chairs. A good idea would be to use a gray tartan fabric on a signature armchair, or if you want to add a pop of color, use a black and gray fabric with a bright pink stripe. To enhance the scheme, you can add a vibrant color as an accent, for example red or yellow, and use it for accessories like cushions or adding lush green plants. Furniture should have clean and elegant lines.

Blinds are ideal for decorating windows. Pinstripes look particularly stylish made from Roman blinds. Venetian and vertical blinds are also suitable for this look and can be found in a wide variety of finishes and colors, from metallic to wood.

One of the key components of this style is exposed brick. If you are not lucky enough to have the real thing, there are some really good wallpapers available that are very effective. The walls can be painted gray or white or maybe add some eye-catching wallpaper that would look stunning.

Wood or polished concrete floors are great for this style, but if it’s too cold and you want to soften it up, add rugs for warmth and texture.

Open-plan living is a key element of this style and the kitchen area should have bright, shiny units and also have sleek, clean lines. Work surfaces should have an industrial finish like stainless steel. Accessories should be kept to a minimum, everything on display should be stainless steel.

The lighting should also have an industrial look and the metal fixtures and curtains add an edgy touch.

You can still have a softer look in the bedroom without losing the industrial touch. Choose blankets and bedspreads in metallic gray and add a rug to the sides of the bed to keep your feet warm when you get up.

Display the artworks of your choice on the wall, large canvases will give you an elegant look.

If you don’t want a full industrial look, this look can be successfully fused with other styles to create a cozier look while remaining sleek and edgy. Try combining it with a modern rustic style, for example in a kitchen you could have exposed copper cookware or rustic boxes for storage.

Industrial interiors can look very sleek and stylish, however they can look quite stark, so if you prefer a cozy interior, this style is probably not for you.
