If you are reading this article, then you are planning to renovate your home, or moving to a new house, or you are not totally satisfied with the lighting in your current home. In either case, this might be the right time for you to understand the ins and outs of pendant lights and consider whether one will help you.

Pendant lighting has become a great alternative to classic ceiling lighting. In fact, if you dig into history, pendant lighting is one of the oldest forms of lighting installations. Ancient palaces and castles had great looking pendant lights with fantastic accessories. During the lighting it resembled the aristocracy of those days. And even today, with ceiling mounted fixtures being the conventional form of lighting, pendant lighting remains the most aristocratic form of lighting.

Today, with the modern manufacturing industry capable of rapidly producing pendants and this increasingly popular lighting system, there is no shortage of options. You will be able to find pendant lamps of your choice with the utmost ease and within an affordable budget. And in all probability it will look beautiful.

The most critical question is whether you can get all the benefits of conventional lighting by using pendant lamps. The short and practical answer is, yes, you can. What is conventional ceiling lighting expected to do for you?

  1. It is expected to light up every corner of your room.
  2. It is expected to provide enough brightness in the places you want.
  3. The house is expected to look beautiful.
  4. It is expected to be easy to maintain and keep clean.

Take a light for now. Please note that the fixture will allow you to determine the height of the fixture at the time of installation. So if you set the light high, the light will spread out more and if you install the bottom of the lamp at lower heights, the light will focus on a relatively more central area.

Therefore, to illuminate every corner of your room, you must install the bottom of the pendant lamps high. Interestingly, if you live in a house with a high ceiling, use a long-handle fixture so the light dangles quite a bit from the high ceiling. That way you will get better lighting closer to the ground and this is something you will never do with conventional ceiling lighting.

To focus on a particular area, you’ll need to hover the pendant lighting fixture over that area and set the height of the bottom of the pendant to be lower. With the pendant lighting being close to the ground, it is much easier to clean and maintain the light and fixture. And in terms of appearance, these are also clear winners.
