Social Events For First Year Students York
During the academic year there are various social and cultural events for first year students York, some of which are run by YUSU and others by individual colleges. These include the Founders College Freshers’ Fortnight, an annual event where members of Founders college can meet other students from their course and around the world. The college also has its own newsletter and newspaper, the Finder. This was a broad-based publication that included information about groups and rooms in the college such as the Cock & Bull. In addition to the York student accommodation union there are also a number of other organisations at the university that support students and their welfare. There is the York Health and Wellbeing Service which offers a range of free counselling services and a wellbeing team who can provide assistance with problems such as housing issues, financial difficulties, mental health and addictions. There is also the University of York Disability and Assistive Technology Centre which provides a range of assistive technologies for disabled and disadvantaged students.
