Spring cleaning

When winter has finally released us from its icy grip, many of us turn to spring cleaning. You can reopen the windows, tidy up the house, and put away some of those jackets and coats. However, spring cleaning isn’t just for the house, as the yard and yard might need some attention after the last frost has passed. If you did a good job cleaning the fall garden, the spring cleaning should be a pleasure …

Preparing the flowerbed annually means that you must first collect all the debris and leaves that may have landed there during the winter. If you used leaves for added protection around bushes and trees in the fall, this will be the time when you need to collect them all and make sure the space around the trees and bushes has ample air flow and freedom once again.

This is also the time to get rid of branches that may have been damaged during the winter. Whether it’s an evergreen or a major tree, removing that diseased or damaged branch will allow the plant to grow unhindered.

Spring is also a good time to air out the garden soil. You usually hire someone to do it for you, but you can also get accessories for your shoes that allow you to air out as you walk. This ensures that all roots get air and sunlight and helps loosen dirt that forms the garden. After this, you’ll want to overseed if you didn’t do it in the fall (or want to do it again) and focus on those patches that need help before the sun hits in the summer. If you can get the grass to start growing while it’s still relatively cold, you’re in business!

Clean your porch step, remove any cobwebs that may have accumulated, brush off leaves and debris, and wash your welcome mats and you’re on your way to a clean front yard and front house in the spring. Another thing to think about is cleaning the eaves of leaves and dirt before the spring rain hits. A clean gutter is a good gutter, after all. If the water can’t get to the downspouts, you’re in for a big mess.

Have fun and get out into the spring air, after a harsh winter, you deserve it!
