Dell error code 0146 occurs when your hard drive is faulty. Follow the instructions provided below to correct this error.

Run the system in safe mode

Run the system in safe mode:

Run your system in safe mode to see what happens. Follow the instructions given below to run your system in safe mode.

1. Restart your system
2. Hold down the F8 key before the Windows logo
3. If you have more than one operating system installed on your system, use the up and down arrow keys to highlight the operating system. Now run that OS in safe mode — you need to press F8 one more time

Perform a clean boot

Now you can access your system in safe mode. The next step should be to perform a clean boot to fix Dell Error Code 0146. Follow the instructions provided below to perform a clean boot.

1. Click the Start | Type “msconfig” without quotes in the search box
2. Right-click on MSCONFIG to run as administrator.
3. Enter the administrator password if prompted
4. Now click on the General tab.
5. Select Selective Start
6. Clear load startup items on selective startup
7. Now click on the Services | Hide all Microsoft services
8. Now click Disable All
9. Apply | okay
10. Reboot if prompted

Run Check Disk

5. Now press Y
6. Restart your computer after closing all applications.

Run short self test

2. Hold down the F12 key, it will show you the boot menu
3. Now, from the boot menu, select Diagnose.
