What makes a great hotel?

Tours Travel

Choosing a hotel for a business trip or vacation is a big deal. You want the best place you can, no one wants to be trapped in a dirty and incomplete place where you don’t find it safe to even sit in bed, much less get into it. But how do you know which hotel is a good hotel? It’s not really about the size of the room or the size of the towels, but most people agree that it’s the little things that make a hotel feel like home.

If the hotel staff are helpful, friendly, and show a lot of hospitality, you know you’ve come to the right place. Of course, it also helps that the lobby is well lit and clean, as it is a forerunner of things to come. If you can check in without a hitch and your keycard really works for your room, you’re in business. Sloppy check-in and key cards that just won’t allow you to get into your room, pool, gym, etc. just aren’t good enough in this day and age.

Next is the location. If you are going on vacation to a specific location, such as a theme park or monument, you will want a hotel that is close enough that you don’t travel for hours on end once you reach your destination. Fortunately, with the internet, you can see where hotels are relative to where you want to go before you even leave home.

And then there are the amenities, those things that make your stay more enjoyable and more like home. We’re talking clean comfortable beds, lots of nice things to use in the bathroom, a good supply of towels, in-room coffee and tea, clean glasses and cups, a decent TV, and free WiFi. An in-room microwave and refrigerator are also great amenities, especially if you’re traveling with kids, but they’re also great for storing and reheating dinner leftovers later when you’re hungry.

With online reviews, you can get a pretty decent picture of most of the hotels on your list. And with so much competition, the chains are striving to be bigger and better than their competitors on the street, which is just good news for us travelers and those who actually stay in the rooms.

Another good thing to keep in mind is the perks that hotels offer repeat guests. Play your cards right and you can get a free night!
