I’m doing my first customer appreciation webcast and asked my subscriber list what is the most pressing question they have about blogging and rss.
This is one of the questions I have:
How can blogging be used to increase traffic?
Blogs can increase traffic through the following:
1. If your blog has valuable content, this will attract readers to your blog who will visit it again.
Most people who search using search engines are actually looking for information, solutions. The more useful and relevant content you have, the easier it will be for you to attract visitors and also convert them into loyal readers and subscribers.
2. With a blog, you can submit to the many blog directories that exist online.
By submitting to the many blog directories in the appropriate category, you can expand your reach to specific subscribers or readers who want to read your post in their area of expertise.
3. Blogs promote relationship building and trust with your readers by allowing you to interact with them. Your readers can refer a friend and imagine the traffic power that can be generated if each of your readers makes a referral.
For example, if you have 500 readers and they each refer, it will be an additional 500 new subscribers, giving you a total of 1,000 subscribers / readers.
4. By attracting search engine bots to visit your site more often
All search engines have a program known as a ‘search engine robot’ that basically ‘spiders’ or searches for websites and returns the results they have to the search engines.
And ‘search engine bots’ love content, especially pages with related keywords.
The more frequently you update your pages, the more frequent the search engines will be
A blog is actually a content management system. If that sounds too technical, a Blog is a push button posting system.
Cannot upload pages to web hosting accounts, unlike web pages
For example, with Blogger, just set up a free account, type what you want, and hit “publish.”
Your blog post will be published instantly and automatically hosted for you. By the way, the accommodation is also free.
5. Blogs can easily be turned into an RSS feed for distribution.
With RSS Feeds, your Blog content can be published by other websites that pull RSS Feeds based on keywords or specific content automatically.
By converting your blog to an RSS feed, you can also submit it to the many RSS directories out there, again expanding your reach that you would not otherwise have with a normal website.
6. You can add “podcasts” or “videocasts” to your Blog and reach more people, audio students, especially “Ipodders”, people who own Apple Ipod and like to download audio from the Internet and listen; as well as visual learners.
