How to protect yourself from scammers / scammers on Ebay

Shopping Product Reviews

Always look at the feedback rating of other ebayers, this is important because it tells you their trading history on Ebay. If they have numerous negative comments that make them seem unreliable, then it is best to contact them first or leave it and look elsewhere. If they do not have comments and they are new, it is better to contact them again.

Never buy or sell to overseas places like Nigeria, Africa, etc. These are again scammers using stolen credit cards and if they pay you, well, the money is guaranteed to be stolen, to be withdrawn from your account, so you would basically lose out.

Always email or communicate with them in some other way if you are unsure. At least in this way, you will know their communication standards.
Request a tracking number for a valuable item. This way you can track the item and you will know it has been shipped.

Never bid / buy from ebayers claiming to have 20 * Nokia 8800, 20 * Samsung D600, etc. (he gets an idea). This is because everything is fraudulent. They do not have a verified email address, so they ask you to send them an email from another email address indicated in the listing, once they have received the money, they will withdraw it and close the account, and they will not send anything . Also, eBay cannot do anything as it is too early for them to do anything.

If you are involved in a fraudulent situation, contact the seller / buyer, if they do not respond, contact eBay and PayPal, then if nothing can be done, contact your credit card company (by law, you are protected against any fraudulent activity for 7/14 days) Don’t leave it too late. You can also contact the police, they will give you a crime number, send it to the fraudulent ebayer, they can read your emails but they just won’t reply, if you show them a crime number they will probably freak out and give you money back. Also ask for their contact information by looking for it in the help, at least you will know where they live and their contact number.
Always pay with PayPal, you know you will be covered. Do not use external companies such as Nochex and Western Union, you will not be covered.

I wonder why people put a reservation on their listings, well it’s to protect themselves from the bargain shield. This is where two or more ebayers point to a listing, for example Samsung D600 with a starting price of 0.99 and no reservation. The first scammer will come and make an offer of 0.99, the second scammer will come and make an offer of around £ 20. The third scammer will come and make an offer of £ 500. This is worth more than the value of the phone, therefore no one else will bid. Then when the listing is about to end, the third scammer will cancel their bid and the second scammer will win the item for £ 20. However, eBay has put an end to this, but this is just one of the reasons why ebayers place a reservation on your items.

And finally, don’t bid / buy for something that sounds too good to be true as it will probably be too good to be true.
(NEW) – Look for new ebayers with a score of 0. They usually bid on your item but then don’t pay for it or use some fraudulent way to pay for it, like fake emails. You can tell this if the email is from PayPal, but then it goes to your junk / spam mail and also if it says Dear Customer, Dear Account Owner instead of your name – this shows that this is fraudulent and should be reported to PayPal. Then you have to suffer eBay fees and restocking fees as well.

(NEW) – Also look for people who do chargebacks. This is when someone pays for the products, and after a few weeks or even days (basically after you’ve shipped the item), they’ll process a chargeback with PayPal. At this point, most people delete the information needed to prove the claim, so you lose. To avoid this, always keep records of the transactions and anything else related to that transaction as evidence.
