How to Throw a Big Party Using Party Games

Arts Entertainments

Everyone has attended a party that was a failure. If you’re the host, this can be horrible. But there is something to quickly remedy the celebration: Party games!

Party games quickly provide visitors with many opportunities to meet other people and are fun too. I’ve never been to a party where these games were played and I didn’t have a good time. The following games are my favorites to have fun in a meeting.

Wink
This game feels like a detective game. Have your group sit in a circle. Using a deck of cards, draw enough cards so that each member of the group has one card. Make sure one card is the ace of spades. The person with the ace of spades quietly wins over the other players. If they wink at you, you say, I’ve been murdered, and then throw your card in the middle of the circle. Any dead person is out of the game. The object of the game is to find out who has the ace of spades. If you think you know, say you want to guess. If you make a mistake, you lose and die. If you hit, you win.

Who I am
This is a fun game that helps with communication. Each player writes the name of a famous person on a piece of paper. Then each participant is given one of the papers (which is not theirs). Without looking at it, they should tape it to their chest. The other players can see who you are, but you have to guess. You can only ask yes or no questions to the rest of the group. By taking turns you will begin to get an impression of who you are. When you think you know, you can guess. Once you guess the correct person, you can help the other players until everyone has guessed. Another version is for everyone to sit in a circle. The name card is pasted on the chest. One player at a time can ask a yes or no question. The rest of the group will respond. The first player to guess right wins.

charades
This activity is a classic. Each player must write the names of the TV shows, activities, movies, books, etc. these are put into a hat and each player draws a piece of paper. Once a paper is drawn, the player’s goal is to perform what is written on their paper, without speaking. The other members of the party must shout riddles while the player performs.

Would you rather Questions
Each person in the group thinks of two difficult options. They then pose the question by saying would you rather… followed by the two options. If there are a lot of people playing, everyone should take turns asking the group a question. Or, if there are too many players to hear everyone’s answer, spin a bottle so only one player answers a question.

To show you, I’ve included a selection of questions about what you’d prefer to start with:

• Would you prefer butter or whipped cream?
• Would you rather eat a rotten apple with worms on it or eat liver covered in blue cheese?
• Would you rather go on a steady diet or never be able to diet again?
• Would you rather be a vampire or remain human?
• Would you rather die young but be happy or die old but be miserable?
• Would you rather live alone in a little dark hole for a year or be in jail for 20 years?
• Would you rather date Quagmire from Family Guy or date Moe from The Simpsons?

By playing these games, your visitors will have a lot of fun at your party. They won’t want to leave!
