our angels

A friend told me the following:
You know, a mother is always praying for her children. It’s the same with me and Lollapot. I often let her know via WhatsApp that I have asked the Lord to surround her with a multitude of angels.

Quite early Friday morning, we received a call from her to say that she had been in a car accident. This is how I remember it:

On the way to work, a car cut right in front of him. Lollapot hit him with a massive crash.

He could barely move his legs and his forehead hurt a lot. Out of the corner of her eye she saw the target slowly move forward and then move away!

To top it off, a minibus taxi stopped to his right and he had another scare. A minute later, three men came out. Not just any man, but three uniformed traffic cops. Is that possible?

They carefully eased her out of the car, holding her upper body upright from behind and slowly shuffling in the opposite direction until she was able to sit on the sidewalk. She was dizzy and nauseous.

Meanwhile, as if called to the scene, a police car arrived. Cedric, the traffic officer, stopped them and pointed at the man walking away. Immediately, the blue lights and sirens flashed on and off and they were in hot pursuit. They soon returned with the offender.

Shortly after sitting down on the sidewalk, someone patted him on the shoulder. Two young men wanted to give her her phone numbers, because you see, they had witnessed the whole incident and would not hesitate to testify.

And then Cedric came to tell her that he had called an ambulance to take her to the hospital.

And not only was she taken to the hospital, Cedric continued to rub her back as nausea threatened to overwhelm her. He held her hand as she began to cry like a little child as the nurse struggled to find a vein. The boy has an overwhelming phobia of needles!

As I lay in a room waiting for the medicine to start working, a cleaner named ‘Aunt Lucy’ came in and asked if there was anything she could do for this shocked and crying person. At least she could search her bag for her cell phone. And she promised to stay close to her, just in case. You can imagine? It’s not her job, but she’s willing.

When we arrived that afternoon, as I was helping her stick the pain pads on the swollen muscles of her neck and shoulders, she told me the whole story. Tears of gratitude streamed down my face. Before continuing, I took her hand and prayed, ‘Thank you, Lord! Thank you for the multitude of angels that surrounded my son this morning!’

Cedric, Aunt Lucy, policemen and witnesses, all of them angels of God on duty. They were full of God. 12… We are being shown… how to take on a God-filled, God-honoring life.

We too must be angels. Today, everywhere, all the time.

Reflection
Do you see yourself as an angel?
Do you realize that God wants to use you?
Where?

Sentence
Holy Spirit, please help me to always listen and see where you want to use me in other people’s lives. Show me where I can help someone overcome a difficulty today. In the name of Jesus, amen.
