An introduction to LCD projectors

A projector is a device for presenting an enlarged image on a screen from a transparency, such as a photographic slide or film. In a moving-image projector, each frame is held stationary in an illuminated aperture for a brief period, then advanced by an intermittent sprocket or reciprocating claw, and a rotating shutter cuts off the light during movement. The film’s sound track is played on a separate sound head where the film is continuously moving at a constant speed.

LCD projectors come with the ability to deliver high definition images with high pixel density. Most LCD projectors are compact and lightweight; most advanced LCD projectors even use two-inch polysilicon panels. These panels (an advanced LCD projector may have TFT panels) help produce high quality images with HD quality of around 1000 scan lines.

Most run-of-the-mill LCD screens have a 4:3 screen ratio. However, in some cases, an LCD may also have a 16:9 screen ratio. The images are projected on a super large screen. Some of the outstanding features of a compact and lightweight LCD projector are:

1. The use of three high-definition two-inch polysilicon TFT LCD screens

Panels are key elements in the production of the three basic RGB colors.

2. High contrast ratio images are produced. Typically, the image contrast is 400:1.

3. A good LCD projector increases normal brightness by about 40% over most other conventional and ordinary LCD video projectors. These LCD projectors use a high transparency LCD panel for the above purpose.

For example, one of the latest high-quality LCD projectors is the Fujitsu LPF-D711 High Definition LCD Home Theater Projector.
