Lake O’ The Pines is located in the Cypress River watershed. It covers Camp and Upshur counties, Texas, and is approximately 25 miles north of Longview, TX. Known for its good white bass and black and white crappie fishing, anglers love this lake. In addition to the good fishing, bass and bluegill abound.
Confiscated in 1956, with a pool level of 228 feet with an average fluctuation of 4 to 5 feet per year. Normal lake water is moderately clear. It has an area of 16,919 hectares with a maximum depth of 49 feet.
There are 22 RV parks and marinas that cover the lake. Most offer RV spaces with hookups. Many also offer year-round rates, which is very popular. RV Park fees are $25 to $30 per night and the off-season is somewhat lower. It is strongly recommended that you call ahead to reserve your space in the RV park.
The parks offer a wide range of prices for cabins, with prices ranging from $50 to $100. Some fishing guides live on the lake, and some offer cabins for rent. This is a good deal for you because in addition to being away from the crowds, you have the experience of the guide at Lake O The Pines.
Predominant fish species are: Largemouth Bass, Spotted Bass, Blue, Channel, and Flathead Catfish, White Bass, Crappie, Sunfish, and Chain Pike
Vegetation: Coverage is 15% to 20% of the lake area. Dominant types are buttonbush, hydrilla, and water primrose. The fish are most active in the fall, winter and spring months due to the much cooler weather. For somewhat active fish, try spin baits and crank baits. The watermelon green plastic worms seem to do well during the hotter months when they are fished out of the grass. Some morning water baits are Poppers, Prop Baits, Flukes.
