How about upping your game this Valentine’s Day? What if, instead of, or in addition to, focusing the intensity of your love on that special person in your life, you put the focus of your love on your life? Your whole life, all of it, every aspect of it. What if instead of complaining, insulting, blaming or criticizing your life, you would embrace it wholeheartedly with all the love, hugs and kisses that you lavish on that special person?

Of course, your work life isn’t perfect (whose is?), but if you look at your work, your career, through the eyes of love, you’ll find all sorts of things to appreciate. No less important is the paycheck it gives you. There are coworkers you like or who support your efforts in some way. There is a place to go, tasks to accomplish, that allow you to use at least part of your intellect and creativity.

His family and/or friends drive him crazy sometimes, but somewhere in the mix there are good times, fun adventures, tender moments. What if you focused on them, letting their memory bring a smile to your face and letting your friends and family know how dear they are to you, both with words and hugs?

Then there is you. Ah yes, the tough nut to crack. How about loving yourself? You see, even though social media is a wonderful gift to us by allowing us to connect faster and more freely, it also brings up a lot of the devil known as “comparison.” Everyone else seems to be happier, thinner/fatter, taller/shorter, prettier/more handsome, more successful than you. Everyone else seems to be on trend with what’s hot, on top of all the firsts and throwing themselves into more and more exciting jobs, trips, cars, clothes, companions!

Dammit! You cannot love yourself and compare yourself to others at the same time. Other people always, being of different types, in one way or another will be more than you aspire to, or less than what you dislike. And that? You are YOU, wonderfully only YOU! And that, along with your wonderful and unique life, is worthy of love.

Love. As in caring and caring for yourself and your life. Love. As in being grateful and appreciative of yourself and your life. Love. As in being tender and enjoying yourself and your life.

Love is really all there is.
