Digital photo frames come in different shapes and sizes. However, today we will only talk about large digital frames, because in many ways their uses are unique to the other types of digital frames available.
Bigger is bigger!
Large digital frames are much larger than medium-sized frames. Now before you accuse me of being redundant and stating the ridiculously obvious, let me explain what I mean. The sizes of digital photo frames are measured diagonally, from one corner to the other. So a seven-inch digital picture frame has a seven-inch diagonal, which means it is five inches tall and six inches wide. Do the math and you get a surface area of 30 inches (5 x 6 = 30). Okay, now for a 15-inch frame. The largest digital frame has a screen height of nine inches and a width of 12 inches. Again, do the math and you get 108 square inches. (9 x 12 = 108).
So you can see that a large digital frame is actually exponentially larger than smaller ones. In our example, a seven-inch bezel has less than a third of the screen real estate most people would consider nearly twice as large. Interesting, right?
Bigger is better!
Okay, now that I’ve convinced you how great these things are, let’s dive into some of their more unique benefits. For starters, if you’re looking to impress, don’t go for a small frame. The bigger the better if you are looking for the wow factor. If you want your friends to come and get jealous instantly, then a large digital picture frame is a safe bet.
Consider for a moment the traditional alternative to buying a large digital photo frame: printing large prints of your favorite photos. I did this recently and it cost me about $ 10 per photo, for 9 x 12 prints. Trust me, this adds up FAST! After that, you need to buy a frame for each photo and … you get the point.
With a large digital photo frame, you get a similar result, perhaps much better, depending on your eyesight. The digital frame can hold hundreds of images and display each one in the magnificent detail you get on such a large screen; however adding another photo costs nothing at all. The other benefit, of course, is the fact that most of the people I know do not have rooms large enough to contain hundreds of large framed paintings on their walls, nor would they want to do something so vulgar! The large digital photo frame solves this problem by allowing hundreds of photos in the same frame.
Bigger is easier to see! Large digital photo frames are a great gift for people with low vision, because they are so much bigger. My grandfather has difficulties with his eyesight, and while he can barely see a smaller digital frame, a large one allows him to enjoy photos along with everyone else. Even for people with good eyesight, a large digital frame can easily be seen from across the room, from the comfort of the couch, rather than having to stand in front of it to capture details.
One thing to consider if you are buying a large digital picture frame is how you are going to change the photos in it. Because the frame is quite large, you don’t want to have to move it around all the time to connect it to your computer. It may be a good idea to get one that allows you to use memory cards. In this way, you only need to update the small flash card on your computer, then connect it to the frame. Alternatively, you can avoid that hassle entirely with a wireless photo frame.
