How inventors shape our lives every day

Arts Entertainments

Picture this: Millions of people do this routine: After waking up, they get up and take a shower; they use an ironing board to iron their work clothes; since it is quite hot in the room, they turn on the air conditioner to cool down; After using a hairbrush to get ready for work, they go downstairs, open the refrigerator door to make some eggs. Then they use an egg beater to make some scrambled eggs. After breakfast, they leave for work after taking their cell phone and use the key on their keychain to lock the back door. So what do an ironing board, an air conditioner, a hairbrush, a refrigerator, an egg beater, a cell phone key fob, and a lock have in common? All of the products just mentioned were created by African Americans.

This article will focus on African-American inventors who made products that we use almost every day. These inventors created some amazing products that many people were unaware of, but sadly in the Jim Crow era, they never got the credit or reaped the fortune they deserve. In some cases, these inventors created the product and without providing a patent for their invention, they told people about their new creation. Since the product was not patented, these people would go somewhere and steal… I mean… make their own product, put their name on it, and gain instant fame. When doing research on this subject, it is really amazing to find out that each inventor made his own product with very primitive material, unlike the technology we have in today’s world.

Here is the list of each inventor and their creation. You’ll be surprised what’s on the list!
