The Day of the Virgen del Carmen is an important Spanish holiday that is celebrated in July in the Balearic Islands. Majorca hotels offer the visitor a wide selection of places to join the traditional celebrations during their holiday trip.

The Dia de la Virgen festival honors the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel, the patron saint and protector of all sailors. The festivities consist of parades, the blessing of fishing boats, and a culminating procession of fishermen carrying an image of the Virgin through town to board their boats. The celebration is usually accompanied by fireworks.

Palma is one of the main port areas where the party is held. It is the commercial center of Mallorca and home to almost half of the island’s inhabitants. It offers a good range of hotels in Majorca, from good value for money accommodation to five star accommodation to suit various types and tastes of travellers.

In addition to the festival along the Bay of Palma, tourists can enjoy its thriving cultural scene and vibrant nightlife with a wide variety of trendy bars and restaurants. This city has no beach of its own, but travelers can easily escape to neighboring seaside resorts, such as C’an Pastilla, using Palma’s efficient public transport system.

Porto Colom is a small coastal town in Majorca ideal for those looking for a quiet and discreet holiday. As a traditional fishing village, its main feature is the natural harbor where small boats still reside. Visitors can join the local fishing community here to celebrate the Día de la Virgen del Carmen festival.

Hotels in Porto Colombo range from three and four star hotels to independent apartments. Most offer beautiful sea views from the top of the cliffs. The harbor promenade also has great views of the bay and great restaurants. The area near the beach of Cala Marsal is a trendy part of town well worth exploring with its own bars and restaurants.

The Day of the Virgen del Carmen is an important celebration for Cala Ratjada as a former small fishing port. But it’s currently a driving tourist region with more than 40 hotels and a reported 12,000 beds to choose from. German and French tourists are the resort’s most popular frequent travelers.

The various beaches near Cala Ratjada provide tourists with a variety of places to enjoy the parades, parties and other local festivities of the Virgen del Carmen Day.

Cala Ratjada has some of the best luxury hotels by the sea in Mallorca such as the five-star Serrano Palace Hotel. This extravagant family complex is located directly on the main beach of Cata Ratjada, Son Moll. Its promenade stretches from the port to the center of the village with many sights, attractions, shops and restaurants along the way.

The pristine sandy coves of Cala Ratjada and the spectacular beaches of the rugged coastline have been awarded the prestigious European Union Blue Flag status for their cleanliness and clear water quality.
