From Grand Bahama and Great Inagua there are 23 inhabited islands and thousands of uninhabited islets and cays (pronounced cays). There is very cosmopolitan Nassau with its duty-free shopping, markets, casinos and nightlife all the way to the Inagua wildlife sanctuary. There is everything in between. On some of the islands there are cute “East Coast of the United States” style towns. The only differences are the lovely weather and the palm trees.

The Bahamas have an international reputation for sailing, with regattas and races throughout the year. It is here that the Gulf Stream originates, giving the islands their abundant and varied marine life. Big game fish attract sport fishermen looking for the “big one.” There have been more than 50 records set in these waters. The great writer/fisherman Ernest Hemingway lives here on the island of Bimini.
