Resell rights for e-books: creating high resale prices

Pets

Have you ever paid a high price for eBook resell rights only to see someone resell them the next week for $1 each on eBay?

Most resellers are lazy. They buy the resell rights to the e-books and then resell them just as they bought them, except usually for less money because it’s quick and easy.

Suppose you have to pay $47 for resell rights to a cool new e-book. You immediately upload it to your website and send an email to your list, “Stop! Don’t pay $47… get it today for only $7!”

If you sell 7 copies or more, you’ve made a profit and haven’t had to do much work. Chances are you’ll at least double or triple your money, even with a relatively small list.

But there are two problems with that:

1. Unless you’re selling eBook resell rights to build your list, you have to resell a lot of $7 eBooks to make a living.

2. You’ve made it difficult for someone else to sell the resell rights to that eBook for more than $7.

Just because other people are selling ebook resale rights for a pittance doesn’t mean you have to keep resale rights to ebooks that you could only sell on eBay for $1.

Here are three creative ways to maintain or even vastly increase the resell rights value of the eBooks you purchase:

1. Repackaged

2. Recreating

3. Reuse

Repackaging eBook Resell Rights

Sometimes ebook resell rights are sold for a single ebook, sometimes you get a bundle. But when you get a resell rights package, often not much thought went into deciding what products to put in the package. If your resell rights license allows it, you can repackage it with different products to create a themed product.

Maybe last week you bought a resell rights package that had an e-book on dog training. Then you remember that a resell rights membership you joined has a very cool e-book with private label rights on how to make dog treats. Do you think dog owners might want to make some nice treats to reward their dog while training? It’s probably a much better combination than the copywriting ebook that originally came bundled with the dog training ebook!

On the other hand, you just got some nice web graphics with resale rights. I’m sure it would go better with the writing ebook! Then remember that you also have a business letter generator with software resale rights. You’ve also just read an article about how Web 2.0 is coming.

You spend about half an hour browsing and learning more about Web 2.0. Then you log on to your favorite resell rights membership site and discover that they have resell rights for e-books on MySpace, YouTube, and Squidoo. You dust off your copy of Photoshop, download an ecover action script from the resell rights membership site, and spend the afternoon creating some new graphics for your new products, “The Web 2.0 Web Master Pack” and “How To Train Your Dog”. “. But still treat your best friend right.” Set the price at $97 for the Web 2.0 package and $27 for the dog training package.

Recreation of products with resale rights

Sometimes you don’t just get the resell rights to e-books. Sometimes you can also get private label rights. Repackaging works great, but wouldn’t it be even more effective if at least one of the products in the bundle was only available through you?

You’re lucky. You check the license for that writing ebook and realize that you have unrestricted private label rights. You can claim authorship, modify the content any way you like, or do just about anything with it. Looking at the copywriting ebook, you realize that it’s a great copywriting ebook, but it doesn’t really cover creating sales pages for the web. Add some content and some screenshot graphics to help illustrate.

Then, download a free trial of Camtasia and spend a couple of hours creating several videos on how to use the web chart and sales page builder, and how to use MySpace, YouTube, and Squidoo. And you change the price to $197.

Reuse of products with resale rights

You have created two new products that no one else has. But you’re wondering about that dog training package. Maybe there is too much competition for those keywords. You check Google. Even in quotes, “dog training” returns 1,620,000 results! You realize you should have checked Google first. Time to verify that license. Great, you also have the private label rights to the dog training ebook! Your dog training package is about to become a “German Shepherd Training” package. There are only 27,200 Google results for that!

But then you start thinking… why stop there? You could have dachshund training and chihuahua training. And there are only 5760 results on Google for “great dane training”. How many breeds of dogs are there? You pull out your calculator and start counting your anticipated millions.

While you think, it hits you. You can do the same with “The Web 2.0 Web Master Pack”. Open a Notepad window and quickly type:

  • Web Master Web 2.0 Package
  • Building your medical practice with Web 2.0
  • Promoting your legal practice with Web 2.0
  • How to promote your local business with Web 2.0

You can think of more later. For now, you want to add a few extra media elements to the ones for the doctors and lawyers. Remembering how much doctors and lawyers charge, he sets a price of $297 for them.

Sitting up for the first time in hours, you realize that the sun is rising. You’ve been up all night working on this. But you are not tired. In fact, you feel better than you have in a long time. You started out with e-book resell rights just like everyone else. But now you have some premium products that no one else has.

Then it catches your eye. I could have just thrown the original products in a bundle and listed them on eBay with a Buy It Now button! You could have gone to bed early instead of staying up all night. You could have sold e-book resell rights like everyone else. He would probably have made at least a dollar or two by now.
