The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 has a long way to go, but the journey has only just begun

Shopping Product Reviews

This is an excellent example of the true capabilities of Sony Ericsson; the Xperia range has been created to cover all aspects of mobile technology and the X10 is the highest spec device in the range, it has an absolutely ridiculous 4 inch touch screen with a 1GHz turbocharged processor under the hood, the Android operating system runs the phone while the TimeScape interface makes it look nice and useful.

The basic design of the X10 focuses on the huge 4-inch WVGA display, the phone’s glossy finish is scratch-resistant and provides a smooth and pleasant handling experience, the phone’s slim-line design makes it easy on the pocket and its overall build feels sturdy and very reliable. The screen itself is incredibly responsive and you’ll find yourself swiping from page to page quite comfortably. Sony Ericsson chose Android version 1.6 to run the X10, but gave users the opportunity to upgrade to version 2.1, which will bring better performance. TimeScape’s interface is great for social media users; stacks information from your social networks and inboxes into a line of tiles, Facebook updates, tweets, messages and recent shares are assigned to their own tiles and displayed in one place for a quick overview of what your friends are up to, this line can be set to update every 15 minutes, but this won’t do battery life any favors. Facebook has been given its own dedicated app so your account can be managed from the X10 screen.

Sony Ericsson has equipped the Xperia X10 with plenty of messaging support; it comes with POP support and will also handle Exchange accounts, this means you’ll have no problem taking your personal and/or business inbox with you, it’s never more than a tap away. To set up your mobile email account, simply enter your address and password and the rest is handled for you. The best part of this arrangement is that all received emails are displayed as their own tile on the TimeScape spline. The web browsing experience on the X10 is excellent, the Japanese-Swedish communications experts have stuck with the Google-based WebKit browser, the 1GHz processor propels it through web pages at turbo speeds, and the controls in the browser they make the whole process even smoother as they are easy to use. The browser allows you to save bookmarks, and infinite text reflow means that no matter how much you zoom, the text will resize to fit the screen.

The Sony Ericsson is well equipped with an 8 megapixel digital camera, it handles capturing still images and videos perfectly well and you can share all your amateur photos and videos with the world via various social networks and the ever popular YouTube. The MediaScape function essentially does the same thing as TimeScape, only with your media; all your photos, videos, and music are brought together in one easy-to-manage app. Sony Ericsson has been pretty generous with its memory, not only do you get an 8GB microSD as standard, but you can upgrade to 16GB.

sony ericsson developed this device to compete with the bigger names in the smartphone market its a good try and i can understand what they have tried to do there are future opportunities for software update which will bring adobe flash player and multi touch for the browser along with better social media integration. Sony Ericsson users will be pleased with this phone, but will they win over Nokia and Samsung users and perhaps some iPhone users? The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 has a long way to go, but the journey has only just begun.
