Stress affects everyone, even celebrities

TMZ recently reported breaking news that oh, Britney Spears got parking tickets and ran out of gas on the same day! Online feedback on the TMZ post was mostly from concerned fans wondering if critical outlets like TMZ could push Britney over the edge, maybe even to suicide. One fan wrote: “When someone is this close to the edge and you post those headlines you only help push them further away. Harvey Levin spoke about Larry King on respecting privacy in difficult times. This girl is under a lot of stress, regardless of whether YOU consider her a bad mother or not, there is no need to push someone into a suicide attempt. How much more do you think she can take?” The buzzword these days when it comes to celebrities in trouble is stress. However, stress affects everyone and should be taken seriously.

Donald Trump recently proclaimed that Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and Britney were under “different levels of stress.” And he wanted to have them on his show. It’s true that most people underestimate the power of stress on a person’s mind, body, and spirit.

Here’s a refresher course on stress for those of you who didn’t major in health in college. Stress is something that affects everyone’s life. There is good stress known in eustress and bad stress. An example of eustress is when you get married, have a baby, start a new job, or move to a new house. They are not negative events, but they are very stressful. Bad stress events are getting divorced, losing a loved one, or struggling with addiction. As we can, Ms. Spears recalls experiencing various forms of stress at this time and it must be seriously affecting her daily life.

There is short-term stress and long-term stress. Studies have shown that there are two stress situations, short-term stress where a person goes through a mild to severe stressful event and then returns to a neutral state of stress shortly after. An example might be going to a series of job interviews in a week, but when the week is over, you get hired and you can soon be back to ‘normal’. The other type of stress is the most dangerous to your health: long-term stress. It is the case that certain stress inducers just stick around for a while. Some examples are going through a lengthy divorce, being in an abusive relationship, or having an overly stressful schedule for an extended period of time.

Another result of stress is higher levels of cortisol in your body than normal. Side effects of cortisol include higher blood pressure and blood sugar, as well as increased fat storage in the abdomen.

Celebrities and ordinary people need to manage their stress and make life changes as needed. For more information on this topic, visit http://www.britneyscomeback.com.
