This is the first wild and beautiful national park that was established in the year 1932 from land provided by the Muckross Estate. This 25,000-acre expanse of vast land has all kinds of landscapes, from parks to lakes to mountains. The most important places to see in the national park are Muckross House, Knockreer House, Ross Castle, Muckross Abbey, Innisfallen Island and Torc Waterfall among others. You can see yew forest and red deer in this park which cannot be seen anywhere else.

The Aghadoe is one of the best viewpoints from Killarney below. From here you have stunning views of the surrounding countryside to the village which is about 3 kilometers away. This historical place houses a monastery from the 7th century, a round house from the 13th century and also a church from the 12th century. The Torc waterfall is another important place to visit and is located about 7 kilometers from the city. The waterfall is located on the way to Kenmare. You can get to the falls by walking through a forest. Here you will find the best views of the waterfall from near its base. This will give you a good view of the water tumbling from a height of about 70 feet onto the rocks below and gushing out into Lake Killarney.

The Gap of Dunloe is the place to go to see the true scenic beauty of Killarney and is located about 9 kilometers from the city. Here one of the most wonderful glacial lakes in all of Europe awaits you to captivate you with its natural beauty. Even while on the road, you can find all 5 lakes that are in this area and the picturesque view that unfolds before you will amaze you. You can go on foot or by car to reach and explore this unique place.

Another place of natural surroundings is the Muckross House, Gardens and Traditional Farms. This is a must visit place when you come to Killarney and here you have to visit the Muckross house which is located in the national park overlooking the lakes of Killarney. This Victorian manor house is owned by Henry Arthur Herbert who built it in the year 1839. Queen Victoria visited this house during the year 1861. Now it is a museum. As part of the house you have the traditional farmhouses which will show you what rural Ireland was like during the early part of the 20th century.
