I was inspired to write this today. I had really decided to write something about yoga and its benefits, but for some reason I was drawn to write about it today and between you and me, I still don’t know how it will turn out, but I’m going with the flow. and with the inner divinity that you and I possess.
Success is such a sought after commodity in today’s world. There are millions of people who want to be “successful.” It means so much to them that they are willing to give up everything to achieve success. But what is success and how is it measured in the terms of the common man? In a dictionary it is “favourable or desired result, obtaining wealth”. The last definition is the closest that people associate success with.
In this material world, success is measured by the cars you drive, the diamonds that shine on you, the luxurious lifestyle you lead, and the amount of money you spend. I want to take a moment to say that “nothing wrong with the above”. If you have the money and the diamonds and if you have that success quotient, then by all means you have to enjoy your life and live it to the fullest. I am not here to lecture you on how you should give up your life and retire to a cave in the Himalayas. Although it has been done before and Lord Gautama Buddha is the best example of that.
Success is measured by society in the way I mentioned earlier. So most of us feel compelled to live up to that expectation. This is where the problem lies and what I want to discuss with you. No human being is equal to another human being. They make us “unique”. Even identical and fraternal twins have distinctly different personalities and characters. Based on research, you may find that there are about 8 people in the world who look exactly like you, but “are very different from you in character, beliefs, ability to measure success, etc. It’s impossible to find someone exactly like you.” you. This is because the Divine in all his wisdom has made it this way. NOT Xerox copies or replicas. Isn’t it just wonderful and something to marvel at?
